Reverend Lamont Edwards
Lamont "Pastor Purpose" Edwards is the son of Ms. Gladys M. Edwards and was educated in Prince George County public schools in Virginia. He went on as a high school senior to join the United States Army, where he became a member of the field artillery based out of Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After doing so Lamont returned to Virginia and matriculated at Virginia State University where he earned a bachelors degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Counselor Education. While being there at Virginia State University he graduated with honors from the national psychology honors society; PsiChi and Chi Sigma Iota an international honor society for counseling. While pursuing his graduate education he studied at the Tabernacle School of Divinity. After this he went on to begin doctoral studies in Counselor Education and Supervision at Argosy University before taking a break and following the lead of the Holy Spirit to pursue a master of divinity from the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. He is a Certified Christian Counselor and holds a doctorate of Divinity. Lamont Edwards is also agraduate of the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University and has most recently began working on the birth of a wellness education ministry. He plans to empower the community with a focus on the minds of American youth and future leaders.
Lamont is passionate about higher education and preparing our children for the future. Some of his ministry gifts include creative arts ministries, such as spoken word and organizing open mic events and teaching hip-hop dance to young people. This includes helping them to explore their own creativity, as God has given it to them. He holds several leadership positions which involve curriculum development and the mobilization of youth achievement. He also founded the organization P.O.E.T. which is a creative arts ministry that stands for People Oughta Express Themselves.
His call to ministry is based out of Luke 4:18 because he knows that “...the Spirit of the Lord is upon him and has anointed him to preach, reach and teach people in this season about the liberty and the sovereign year of the Lord.” His favorite scripture is also his birthday, which is Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them who love God and are called according to his purpose.” He currently serves in several capacities at First Baptist Church West Munden, He is an Associate Minister, ordained Reverend and an ordained Prophet.
